Jennifer Lopez Opens Up About “Self-discovery” After Ben Affleck Divorce

Jennifer Lopez is entering a new chapter of her life, and she is doing it with honesty, reflection, and a renewed sense of purpose. Following her divorce from Ben Affleck, which was finalized in January 2025, the singer and actress says she has spent the last year looking inward and confronting parts of herself she had long avoided.

In a candid appearance on the “SmartLess” podcast, the “Office Romance” actress, 56, described the period after the split as “one of the most important turning points” of her life. Instead of focusing on blame or regret, she chose to examine her own patterns and ask difficult questions about what she truly wanted moving forward. “I had to figure myself out,” she explained.

The End of the Decades-long ‘Bennifer 2.0’

Jared / IG / Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck have one of the most famous love stories in celebrity history. Their relationship first captured global attention in the early 2000s after they met while filming “Gigli.”

The duo quickly became tabloid favorites. Their engagement generated enormous media coverage, turning them into one of the entertainment industry’s most recognizable couples.

However, the pressure proved difficult to manage. The couple postponed their wedding and eventually separated in 2004. For years, many fans viewed their breakup as one of Hollywood’s biggest “what if” stories. Nearly two decades later, the romance unexpectedly returned. Lopez and Affleck reunited in 2021, giving fans a second chance to believe in their love story.

Their rekindled relationship moved quickly. The lovebirds married in 2022 and appeared happier than ever, often speaking warmly about finding each other again after so many years apart. The reunion felt almost cinematic. For many observers, it seemed like the perfect ending to a story that had started years earlier.

Yet even the strongest public image cannot reveal everything happening behind closed doors. By 2024, reports of tension and separation began surfacing. The divorce was finalized in January 2025, bringing an end to Bennifer 2.0 and closing another chapter in a relationship that had fascinated the public for more than two decades.

JLO “Looks Inward” After Affleck Divorce

JLO / IG / After the marriage ended, Lopez made a decision that surprised many people. Instead of immediately throwing herself into new projects and public appearances, she slowed down.

The “On the Floor” chart-topper canceled her planned tour and gave herself space to process everything that had happened. According to Lopez, she needed time alone to understand the lessons hidden inside the pain. “I gave myself an ultimatum,” she revealed during the podcast conversation.

That ultimatum was to understand why certain experiences kept appearing in her life and what she needed to change moving forward. The process was not easy. Lopez described it as “a period of intense self-reflection” that forced her to confront uncomfortable truths.

Healing has also taken physical form. Lopez recently moved into a new home, creating a fresh environment for herself and her children. The move represented more than a change of address. It symbolized a new beginning and a chance to create a space focused on peace, comfort, and stability. Lopez describes the home as a “personal sanctuary.” After years of public scrutiny and major life changes, she wanted a place that felt entirely her own.

You bet! For a woman whose career includes hits like “On the Floor,” “Love Don’t Cost a Thing,” and films such as “Marry Me” and “The Mother,” this may be her most personal transformation yet.
